Taos, Mimolette and Roland Restaurant

My frens tell me this is a food blog. I try to deny. Unfortunately, the most exciting things that happen to me are mainly about food or baby these days.. as what this entry is about.

Quick digression first: I seldom order Japanese food at foodcourts. Tried this Teriyaki Salmon and Karaage chicken set ($6.20) at Great World City Food Junction. Nice food court, few patrons.

Turned out to be fried fish and fried chicken set.

Chocz had 20% discount off their cakes after 6pm. Bought a chocolate banana cake and chocolate expresso walnut. Both were very nice, and quite a big slice ($8 before discount).

Tao's Restaurant
Was there on a Saturday. Four of us shared 3 set meals. Portion was just nice. The service was very good. The efficient and knowledgable waiter recommended us dishes so that we do not take forever to order. After every dish they would clear our plates and give us new plates / bowls for sharing. Very thoughtful. Interesting cutlery they have. Couldnt help feeling out of place though. The rest of the patrons looked like army guys / poly students. A big age gap..
Food was good, some ok, some very good, none that I can remember as bad.

Appetizers: From top left - Mushroom cheese gratin with bread, seafood salad, roast chicken salad, prawn roll with mango n pork floss, oyster mushroom stir fry

Soups - Cream of Pumpkin, melon sharksfin (good), cream of mushroom

Drinks - iced teas. Din take note what they were, could tell that the yellow ones were peach-camomile, rose and apple.. and the red one - not sure.

Mains: Baked fish with cheese , Lamb cutlet (nice and tender), Pork ribs,

Dessert: The waiter very generously gave us 4 desserts even though we only ordered 3 set meals. Yam ice-cream, creme brulee, black sesame pudding, green tea ice-cream

All items featured come in the set meal. Total cost of 3 sets after credit card discount ~ $95.

Mimolette

Nice place, but weird drinks. The gals ordered pina colada (too coconut) , pick me up (mocktail. v sweet), mimolette tea (very strong alcohol taste)

Roland
On Sunday, we went for dinner at Roland Restaurant for my parents' upcoming birthday. Ordered their dinner set menu.

Sharksfin

Crispy Prawns with Salted Egg & Special Sauce
Quite nice though i cant quite tell what's special about the sauce

Codfish with chilli and garlic
Chicken rice chilli...

Homemade tofu
This was an additional dish we ordered. Very soft and silky

Pork ribs in special sauce
Taste more like dong po rou

Crab vermicelli
good crab.. lots of lard in beehoon

Chilled mango pomelo sago
Good..

The happiest patron and ah beng wannabe
