Another year.. another age

Birthday celebrations started with a Surprise cake fm colleagues on Friday. Despite similar tactics used as last year (call for mtg), I was still caught offguard becos my boss lured me to the meeting with a serious issue on hand. I was so focused on worrying abt that issue that I took a while to register what was happening (why are all my colleagues hiding in the corner of the room - > Oh, cake! -> oh my birthday!) Hilarious… I had a big chocolate strawberry cake fm Secret Recipe. I must say Secret Recipe cakes are quite special. The apple crumble cheesecake we had on a previous occasion was also quite ‘wow’.. though its packaging is not as sleek as bakerzin, I think it has better cakes than bakerzin.

A colourful bunch

I am 31 this year. A very auntie age. Nvm, I had a good time (an excuse to splurge)..Thanks, Mr Ho!

We booked a rooftop suite for Sunday. 2D1N $300++ . Special rate..

The place was pretty nice.. above my expectations. Romance factor ***** (maximum)
So romantic that

Two's a company

Three's a crowd

Mr Ho, Mrs Ho & Ms Ho

I din stepped out of the suite after checking in.

My favourite chocolate fudge cake with rum cherry from Awfully chocolate with dinner tapau-ed & sponsored by Jess

Thanks for coming, ladies!

Monday is my actual birthday. But Sunday was more happening for me.. Monday afternoon we went to cycle at East Coast.

Followed by Korean food for dinner.

We went to the West Coast branch (opposite Haw Par Villa). Have heard people mentioned it, and so its relatively famous. We were rather disappointed though. (And to think Hungrygowhere reviewers gave it a 7.3 rating. Unbelievable. Nowhere isit near 7 for food/ambience/value.. maybe Service only).
The decor was non-existent, there was no pipe to suck in the bbq smoke. And the place had a 'porky smell'... as for the food.. there were lots of restrictions - kimchi and side dishes were only served with order of BBQ or steamboat.. Customers had to order minimum 2 BBQ items (either 2 items or 2 portions of one item). In the end, we both found the food so-so. I think the outlet at Amara Hotel is still the best.

The day ended on a nice note with a video call from my mum in Jkt. Got to see my nephew.. naughty boy - screamed n screamed for nothing!

Nostalgic Swensons Ice-cream

It’s been a while since I have eaten at Swensons. These days we usu go to Ben & Jerrys because I just love their waffle. But for a nicer dining experience, Swensons is better value for money without breaking the bank like Häagen-Dazs.

The last time I had Earthquake was eons ago. Our regular size earthquake with 8 scoops of ice-cream and somewhat incompatible toppings on the ice-cream. (Strawberry sauce on banana split ice-cream)

With my 2 cousins. Time flies, during my secondary school days, they were still cute babies.

Shall post their baby pics when I manage to find it at my parents' place..

Azur - Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

The weekday dinner buffet here costs $42++ per pax. Thanks to my gf's airport staff pass, we were charged $28.80++ per pax. Pretty good deal for the quality food we get (live drunken prawns). This is one buffet where I ate the least variety of food as I was focused only on those few (expensive) stuff I like.

Roast beef and Chilled lobster? , swordfish sashimi and Häagen-Dazs ice-cream

Canelé Pâtisserie & Kyomomoyama

Coincidentally, the two new places I went to over the past weekend had tricky-to-pronounce names.

Saturday - I’m glad that Ah Jess had time to meet me for tea at Canelé Pâtisserie (Raffles City). We both love the Jupiter Chocolate cake while the ham mushroom crepe was a satisfying filler for my hungry stomach.

Jupiter Cake $7, Lemon Tart and mushroom & ham crepe $14.50

Sunday – Hubby and I were checking out our dinner options at Central Clarke Quay, and were attracted to Kyomomoyama’s 20% discount (times are bad, no business). We ordered two set meals. Too much food for two pax, next time I should just share one Japanese set meal with hubby. The food was ok, but I couldn’t help feeling that hubby’s dinner set tasted like what we had at Tomo Izakaya for lunch. The tempura, the pork cutlet, the chawanmushi tasted like they came from the same supplier, even the assortment in tempura was the same – egg plant, sweet potato, red pepper, prawns. The Chawanmushi had the standard one mushroom, one piece of chicken, one prawn combi as Tomo.. Seems like Japanese food taste the same at all mid-range Jap restaurants? Between Kyomomoyama and Tomo, I think the latter is better – the noodle soup broth, the miso soup taste better. And Kyomomoyama’s rice seemed like non-Japanese rice (our usual thai rice grains). Ok I have just contradicted myself since I was able to point out some differences between the two restaurants.

Sashimi n udon set $23, pork cutlet and tempura set $25 (before 20% discount)

Greedy me happy with my table of food (not included in the pic - scoop of chocolate ice-cream per person for dessert)
